Principal Joy Goad

How I love being a part of the Stone Elementary family!  I began my career teaching Special Education in 1995 in Loudon County, TN.   When my family moved to Cumberland County I took an interim position in kindergarten at Pleasant Hill then moved to teach 1st grade then 4th grade at Crab Orchard.  Both schools were wonderful experiences!

When Stone Elementary opened in 1999, I happily moved in and began teaching 4th grade.  A couple of years later I leaped into 6th grade language arts.  When Susanne Wilson became principal, I was honored to accept the position as Assistant Principal and I thoroughly enjoyed that position until December of 2012.  While it was difficult to leave my students in the classroom, the greatest privilege of being Assistant Principal and now Principal, is that I have the opportunity to know all of our students and their families.  This is a joy!

We are enjoying the challenges of implementing the Common Core State Standards and see the immense benefit to our children.  Can we think too much?!  Our kids WILL rise to our expectations.  Everyone CAN learn!  Everyone CAN grow!

One of our most exciting changes this year has been the implementation of a schedule, school wide, that includes time every day for every student to participate in Intervention and/or Enrichment.  This has enabled us to specifically tailor time to assist students in reading or math and also to CHALLENGE students who need challenged!  Each grade level does this a little differently, but it is a beautiful thing and our students are GROWING.  (We monitor growth through STAR Reading, STAR Math, and STAR Early Literacy).

Parent Connect is up and running.  I want you to use it to keep a check on your child's grades and attendance!  Green sheets containing your parent password have been sent home.  If you do not receive your password, call the school and let the front office know

Thank you for your support.  We are a team!I consider it a privilege and solemn responsibility to be an educator.  The Stone Elementary family takes this seriously.  Go Coyotes!!!

My teaching career began in 1995 at North Cumberland Elementary.  I taught 5th and 6th grades while coaching the JV Girls' Basketball team.  In 1999, I was chosen to transfer to Stone Elementary as it opened its' doors.  From 1999-2013, I taught 6th, 7th, and 8th grade math along with social studies, science, and spelling.  My coaching career continued at Stone with JV and Varsity Girls' Basketball along with Football.

Principal Joy Goad has given me the opportunity to join the administrative staff.  It is a privilege and honor to serve as the Assistant Principal of Stone Elementary.  While I will miss my students, I look forward to working with all of the students of our wonderful school.

Stone Elementary and the students of Stone are my PASSION!
